Prothyron

Prothyron is an impressive part of the Peristyle, the emperor Diocletian addressed his subjects standing there. The entrance into royal chambers led through Prothyron and then through the vestibule.

Vestibule

The Vestibule was the entrance to Diocletian’s apartment. Square-shaped outside and circular-shaped inside, Vestibule was accessed via the Peristyle. The entrance to Diocletian’s living quarters was built to impress.

It was originally adorned with marble slabs, statues and mosaic tile work.  The great dome that vaulted the area was not preserved.

The acoustics are perfect for klapa singers, who are often found here performing a cappella harmonies.
